FdfWelcome! Steps Two & Three:

Step Two: Information Exchange
After you have researched your topic, go to the Information Exchange Forum below. Post your topic and give a brief summary about why you think it is a pertinent issue, and at least 3 facts you have discovered about your topic. Please use appropriate, grade level vocabulary. Here is a sample:

Topic: High School Drop Out Rates, posted by Brian Oritz.
Summary: This topic is interesting to me because my brother dropped out of high school 4 years ago, and I watch him struggle every day. If he had more support at home and at school, I think he would have graduated. Now he is working at Longs Drug Store and can't make enough money to move out of the house.
Facts: I have learned that in 2006, 36,000 California students dropped out of high school. I also learned that the rate is the highest in poor communities. Additionally, I have learned that the largest number of dropouts occur in poor communities where teachers are less skilled and where there is a lack of after school programs.

Step Three: Respond to Your Peers
You must respond to the topics your peers post. Pose 2 questions to at least two peers regarding their topics. Search through the topics, and ask at least 2 classmates 3 questions or more each. Continue reading below so you can see what a good Information Exchange will look like:

Information Exchange Forum: Please post here for steps two and three, that is your summary of your own topic & facts, and then respond to 2 peers, beneath thier postings. It will look something like this:

Topic: High School Drop Out Rates, posted by Brian Oritz.
Summary: This topic is interesting to me because my brother dropped out of high school 4 years ago, and I watch him struggle every day. If he had more support at home and at school, I think he would have graduated. Now he is stuck working at Longs Drug Store and can't make enough money to move out of the house.
Facts: I have learned that in 2006, 36,000 California students dropped out of high school. I also learned that the rate is the highest in poor communities. (www.research.com) I also learned that in a study by youthamerica, it was concluded that those who have parents who did not complete high school are 70% less likely to complete high school themselves(YouthAmerica.org).

Questions posted by Marlene Hayward for Brian Ortiz:
1. Why do you think the rate is higher in poorer communities?
2. What happens to most kids who drop out of school?
3. What is your solutionHigh school drop out rate? I hope it is something that could actually be put into action.

rachela Teen Drugs and Alcohol Abuse 1 Sep 12 2009, 6:12 AM EDT by jackheller

Summary: I chose to do this topic because everyday teens abuse a variety of drugs, both legal and illegal. The use of illegal drugs is increasing, especially among young teens. Teens use alcohol and other drugs for many reasons which includes curiosity, to reduce stress, to feel grown up or to "fit in".Such as marijuana;the average age of first marijuana use is fourteen. Drug use is associated with a variety of negative consequences, including increased risk of serious drug use later in life, school failure, and poor judgment. All of these things can put teens at risk for accidents, violence, unsafe sex,and suicide.
Facts: "Using alcohol and tobacco at a young age increases the risk of using other drugs later. Some teens will experiment and stop, or continue to use occasionally, without significant problems. Others will develop a dependency, moving on to more dangerous drugs and causing significant harm to themselves and possibly others."

Summary :

Today most teens have very poor health issues. Teens that are not happy with their bodies are at a higher risk for future binge eating, smoking, poor eating, and very little physical activity according to research from the university of Minnesota school public health. When it comes to teens and their eating habits they are very poor. More and more teens every year suffer from the eating disorder of obesity because of their poor eating habits and their lack of physical activity.
Having bad eating habits does not only affect you physically but it can also play a big factor on how well you do in school. Study show that eating a nutritional breakfast can give you more energy through out the day, in a result paying attention through out the day. I also learned that having bad eating habits can lead to other heath issues such as asthma symptoms because eating unhealthy can lead to unhealthy lungs. I believe having healthy eating habits can only have us live longer and happier lives.
